DIY Fabric Softener

Fabric Softeners smell great and leave our clothes feeling soft, fresh and clean, but at what cost to our health? Fabric softeners would have to be one of the most toxic products we keep in our homes.  These are thought to be responsible for up to 90% of indoor air pollution in the average home. The worst part is we are exposed to them when adding them into our machines and we are exposed to the chemicals dermally when we wear our clothes. They are full of synthetic fragrances which are just terrible for our health.  Synthetic fragrances are filled with things called Phalates which have been found to be very damaging to our reproductive health. Fabric softeners can also be the cause for a lot of skin irritations, eczema, rashes or sensitivities in children or adults.

Soften instead with 1/2 cup white vinegar, a heaped tbsp bi-carb and pop 20 drops of your favourite essential oil on a tea towel in with the clothes going into the dryer if you use one and want your clothes to be scented. Nature knows best!

WHAT YOU NEED:

1/2 cup white vinegar

1 Tbls Bi Carb Soda

Essential oil ( Pure and therapeutic grade)

Pop all ingredients into the fabric softener compartment of your washing machine.

If you’re wanting to scent your clothes in the dryer. 20 drops of essential oils on a tea towel or investing in some beautiful felted dryer balls would be a lovely option.  Your pleace the drops of essential oil onto the dryer balls and into the dryer. This will have your clothes smelling fresh and beautiful the natural way.
